Summer Blood Drive at Putnam Hospital

During the summer months, blood donations are typically low because of holidays and school vacations. Still, as we all know, the need for donors is constant.

Putnam Hospital Center is stepping in to fill the gap during this summer season by hosting a blood drive July 28 in collaboration with the American Red Cross.

WHERE: the Michael T. Weber Conference Room 2, 670 Stoneleigh Ave.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 28

There are about 39,000 units of blood needed each day in hospitals and emergency treatment facilities throughout the country for patients with cancer and other illnesses, requiring surgery, in need of organ transplants and recovering from an accident or other trauma, according to the American Red Cross.

In the New York-Penn Blood Service region, the organization needs to collect approximately 1,000 units of blood each day to meet the needs of patients.

The drive is open to the general public as well as Putnam Hospital Center employees.
