Thunder, Hail: Storm Moving Across Putnam

BREWSTER, NY — At 205 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Fahnestock State Park moving east at 15 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with this storm, the National Weather Service said.

Locations affected include Danbury, Lake Carmel, Sherman, Brewster, Cold Spring, New Fairfield, Carmel, Fahnestock State Park, Patterson, Putnam Lake and Brewster Hill.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm with up to an inch of rainfall possible within the hour, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
