Thunderstorms Possible, Then Cooler Temps: Workweek Weather For Putnam

It's a mixed bag of weather for the remainder of the week around Putnam County.

SOUTHEAST, NY — The Hudson Valley is in for a mixed bag of weather for the week ahead with a summer-like day preceding possible thunderstorms and then lower daytime temperatures. Coming off a Labor Day holiday with decent weather, Tuesday will see rising humidity with temperatures that seem as if summer isn’t over yet — at least not officially.

There are also Hazardous Weather Outlooks for parts of the area as well, according to the National Weather Service. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

A slight risk of thunderstorms is in the forecast Tuesday for Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Ulster counties.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms exists before 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a possible thunderstorm overnight.

AccuWeather.com meteorologist Jordan Root said a cold front Tuesday will run into a warm, humid air mass that will lead to showers and thunderstorms over a wide swath of the east coast.

“While heavy rain will be the greatest threat during these days, some of the storms on Tuesday could bring gusty winds as well,” he said. “Motorists will need to be on alert for flooded or washed-out roadways and possible delays.”

By Thursday afternoon, the rain should clear out of the region, leaving behind partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
