Village Asks Dozens of Business Owners for Feedback on Potential Grant

The grant would allow both new and previously-established businesses to receive funds.

Business owners in the village of Brewster can expect to receive a survey for a development grant in the coming days.

Gathering interest through the surveys will help officials decide whether to pursue the New York State Community Development Block Grant, which would allow the village to allocate funds to both new and existing businesses that meet certain criteria under its microenterprise program.

Village Trustee Christine Piccini said that the documents were mailed to at least 100 contacts Monday.

Because of the requirement for new and old establishments to be involved, the financial benefits of the grant would be twofold: job creation and support for underperforming businesses.

The requirements for business eligibility, which are listed in the survey, are low to moderate income, a formal business plan, fewer than five employees and plans to bring in at least one full-time employee, among other conditions.

There is no deadline for completion and the survey is non-binding, Piccini said.
