
Joan P. Howe, of Brewster, NY, died Tuesday March 15, 2016 at home with her family by her side. She was 84 years old.
Born November 23, 1931 in Astoria, NY, the youngest of 11 children to the late Daniel and Mary (Kolb) Curley, Joan graduated in 1950 from William Cullen Bryant High School in Queens, NY. Following graduation, she went to work in the banking industry, where she met her future husband Charles.
Joan and Charles R. Howe were married on October 15, 1960 and moved to their home in Brewster, NY in 1969.

Joan was a loving and devoted mother to her 5 children. She volunteered with the CCD program at the Church of St. Lawrence O’Toole where she and her husband were parishioners, and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She also worked for the Brewster School District and the Town of Southeast for many years. Her greatest legacy, however, is her family, which includes 5 children, their spouses and twelve grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Charles, her 5 children: Charles “Chip” and his wife Nancy of Stamford, CT; Mary and her husband Kenneth Rhuda of North Salem, NY; James and his wife Dina of Norwalk, CT; Matthew and his wife MaryAnne of Hopewell Jct, NY; and Joan and her husband Michael Nicholson of Stamford, CT; 11 grandchildren; and her sister, Agnes Jaworski, of Largo, FL.

Joan was predeceased by 3 brothers, 6 sisters, and her grandson, Michael Howe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Church of St. Lawrence O’Toole, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at Peach Pond Cemetery, North Salem, NY. She will be waked at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Friday, March 18th from 4:00 p.m. - 8 p.m.
