
Joan A. VanScoy, age 94, a longtime resident of North Salem, NY, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT.
Joan was born on December 28, 1923 in Richmond Surrey, England to Mr. and Mrs. William T. Napier. She graduated from schools in England. Soon after, while working for the US and British Armies, Joan met and fell in love with Benjamin P. VanScoy. They were married in April of 1944 in London, England and in 1946 Ben took his new bride home to North Salem where they began their life together. Mr. VanScoy died on May 28, 1961.
Joan was a Bookkeeper for the North Salem Central School District for many years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Republican Committee and the North Salem Historical Society. She volunteered with the North Salem Lions Club. Joan enjoyed baking as well as her memberships and volunteering, but it was her family that brought the greatest joy to Joan’s life. They were the center of her life.

Joan is survived by her sons, Peter H. VanScoy (Linda) of North Salem, NY and Randall VanScoy of Alexandra, VA; her 3 granddaughters, Lori Nieves, Sarah Broderick and Rachel VanScoy and her great grandson Benjamin Broderick.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 10 am at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at June Cemetery, North Salem, NY. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 pm to 8pm.
