William Porter Dexter Jr., 76, of Fishkill, NY, formerly of Brewster, NY passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013. He was born on November 10th, 1936 in Purdys, NY to Myrtle (Thompson) and William Porter Dexter, Sr. He graduated from Purdy’s High School in 1955. He joined the Army in 1958. While home on leave, he married the love of his life, Emma (Coughlin) on October 25th, 1964. She survives him at their home in Fishkill.
Bill is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Allan J. Brideau Jr., also of Fishkill, His Grandchildren and their families, Tiffany and Dominic DeCarlo, Kiersten Miller and Ryan Caviola, and the two most precious people in his life, his great grandchildren, Vanessa Rose DeCarlo and Dominic Joseph DeCarlo. All of Hopewell Junction, NY.
Bill loved to be called Pop by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was his favorite role in life. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill was the eldest of a large family. He was called “Sonny” by many. Bill is survived by his brothers and their families - Jerry Dexter of Danbury, CT, Richard Dexter of Mt. Shasta, California, Theodore Dexter of Brookfield, CT, Joseph Dexter of Brewster, NY. He was predeceased by his brothers - John B. Dexter, formerly of Bethel, who is survived by his wife Theresa, and his brother Thomas Dexter of Arkansas, who is survived by his wife Opal. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Thomas Merrigan of Plattekill, NY, His sister-in-law and her husband Helen and Manfred (Doug) Eaton of Stonington, ME, Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Earl (Pete) and Tess Daley, Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Rosie Daley of Fayetteville, NC, and Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel and Lynn Daley of Holmes, NY. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Wallace Daley and his mother-in-law, Esther Daley, and father-in-law, Earl Daley Sr. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill loved to work with his hands and did a lot of carpentry in his younger days. He held a variety of jobs in his life; He was a caretaker at The Sedgewood Club in Carmel, NY and also a caretaker at St. Basil’s Greek Archdiocese in Garrison. He worked at Hipotronics for a number of years before his retirement, and worked part-time, always keeping busy, after his retirement.
A graveside service will held for William on Tuesday, June 4rd, 2013, 1:00pm at the Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel, NY. Family may receive friends before the service Tuesday June 4rd, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, at The Beecher Funeral Home 1 Putnam Ave. Brewster, NY, 10509 (845)-279-3615, www.beecherfuneralhome.com. He will be greatly missed.
