Wanted: Oldest Putnam Resident

Officials are looking forward to honoring the oldest Putnam County resident at a parade this spring, but first, they have to find him or her.

County Executive MaryEllen Odell and members of the Bicentennial Committee announced Friday in a press release that they are looking for Putnam's oldest resident. That person "will be an honoree at the Bicentennial Fireman’s Parade to be held on June 9 ... and will be a part of the ceremonies and festivities to be held that day."

This year marks two centuries since Putnam split from Dutchess County. The bicentennial celebrations began last month with a formal ball. Officials plan to dig up a 50-year-old time capsule the same day the parade is held, and in November, they'll bury a new capsule.
