
Whitney J. “Chip” Hopkins, 49, of Brewster, died June 30, 2017.
Chip was born in Canandaigua Aug. 3, 1967 to Jordan and Carolyn Hopkins of Bluff Point. He spent his school years in Penn Yan schools, graduating in 1986 from Penn Yan Academy, where he was active in music programs and drama productions. He graduated from Hartwick College, earned his Masters in Education, and eventually became a teacher. Previously, he worked for various cellular service companies from their inception.
He was a social studies and High School Academy teacher in Mahopac.

Mahopac Superintendent Dr. Dennis Creedon wrote an email to district parents and employees about Hopkins, according to TapIntoMahopac. He said counseling was available to any student and remembered the teacher for his dedication. “Chip used his gift of humor to create a loving and stress-free class environment. He labored to ensure each of his students achieved graduation and realized their dreams.”
Hopkins is survived by his children, Jordan, Brendan, and Samantha; his parents, and his sister, Minda.
