A weak storm coming up the coast in advance of the stronger storm expected on Wednesday will bring snow, sleet and freezing rain -- and with up to a tenth of an inch of ice, make travel difficult, the National Weather Service warns.
The NWS has issued two statements for Putnam County:
- Winter Weather Advisory in effect from February 23, 01:00 PM EST until February 24, 09:00 AM EST
- Hazardous Weather Outlook
“With afternoon temps expected to be above freezing during the daylight hours… the roads should be mainly wet at first,” said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “However… as the sun sets, and temperatures fall near or just below freezing… snow and slush covered roads are possible. So slick road conditions are a concern for the evening commute. Something we’ll have to monitor as the afternoon progresses. In general… a slushy coating to 2 inches are possible across the region.”
