Winter Weather Advisory Friday For Putnam, Orange Counties

Problems for the evening commute will start at midday in part of the Hudson Valley. Here are the details.

BREWSTER, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Putnam and Orange Counties, in effect from 1 p.m. to midnight Friday. Precipitation will likely start as light snow and sleet toward midday, before transitioning to light freezing rain by evening.

A few tenths of an inch of snow and sleet accumulation are possible before the transition to freezing rain.

"If this were to fall as all snow, it would still be less than an inch," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "However, with freezing rain and freezing drizzle, it only takes a thin glaze on the pavement to cause very hazardous conditions."
