2. LI State Veterans Home Honors Colonel E. David Woycik Jr. (stonybrook.edu) — The Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University has named its gift shop in honor of Colonel E. David Woycik Jr., recognizing his long-standing support for local veterans and their families. At a recent ceremony attended by Stony Brook Medicine leadership, staff, residents, and officials, speakers praised his decades of military service and advocacy that have strengthened care for veterans across the region.
3. 13 Animals Rescued From 'Deplorable' Port Jefferson Home, Three Arrested: Police (newsbreak.com) — Police say a Stony Brook man and two Port Jefferson residents were arrested after firefighters responding to a roof fire discovered 13 animals living without food or water in what officers called deplorable conditions. All three face 13 counts related to failing to provide proper care, and the animals were removed from the Willis Avenue home as the investigation continues.
4. Dr. Rebecca N. Monastero joins Sound Neurology in Rocky Point (tbrnewsmedia.com) — A Stony Brook–trained neurologist has joined Sound Neurology, part of Stony Brook Medicine's community network, expanding access to specialized neurological care for Rocky Point and nearby Suffolk County communities. 5. Women's lacrosse boasts quartet of top-50 commits for 2027 recruiting class (thetigercu.com) — A top women's lacrosse defender from Stony Brook has committed to Clemson as part of a 2027 recruiting class that includes four top‑50 national prospects. Her All‑American play at Ward Melville and reputation as a premier one‑on‑one defender highlight the strong pipeline of talent emerging from the Stony Brook area.
