• Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook (tbrnewsmedia.com) — Families in Stony Brook can look forward to a new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, slated to open in 2027 as Suffolk County’s first such facility. A recent kids’ bowling fundraiser in Port Jefferson helped support the house, which will offer 30 bedrooms, meals, transportation, Wi‑Fi, and other comforts for families of hospitalized children. 
• Brookhaven Lab and Stony Brook Demonstrate First US Free-Space Quantum Network Link Across 13 Miles (quantumcomputingreport.com) — Stony Brook University researchers have teamed with Brookhaven Lab to create the nation’s first permanent free-space quantum link, connecting a “Quantum Watchtower” on campus to Brookhaven’s “Quantum Lighthouse” 13 miles away. This Stony Brook–based breakthrough plugs into a 161‑mile Long Island quantum network and sets the stage for future links to Yale and even quantum satellites.
