Brooklyn Charter High School Lands 77,000-Square-Foot Campus

SUNSET PARK— A charter high school in Sunset Park will move into a campus nearly eight times the size of its current home, giving students a regulation-size gym, auditorium, cafeteria and outdoor recreation space.

Launch High School plans to relocate in July 2027 to a roughly 77,000-square-foot campus at 5902 Sixth Ave., under a 15-year lease.

The school currently operates from about 10,000 square feet at 475 53rd St.

The new campus includes a 16,000-square-foot regulation-size gymnasium, a dedicated cafeteria, a 7,600-square-foot auditorium and multiple outdoor recreation areas and playgrounds.

The site previously housed Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy, which operated there for more than a century before closing in June 2025. The Redemptorist Fathers of New York own the property.

The larger campus will give Launch High School room to expand as it adds grades.

Launch Schools, a Brooklyn-based public charter school organization, began as a middle school in 2012. It currently serves students in grades six through 10 and opened Launch High School in fall 2025.

The high school plans to add one grade each year.

The move will give the school substantially more space for athletics, performances, meals and outdoor activities than its current 10,000-square-foot location.

The former Catholic school campus has several facilities that Launch can use without building them from scratch.
