The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sunset Park.

Happy Thursday, people of Sunset Park! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening locally today.

First, today's weather:

Intervals of clouds and sun. High: 41 Low: 35.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Sunset Park:

  1. Beginning immediately, the sibling priority in New York City middle school applications will extend to families with children in the same grade or those with fifth graders who have siblings currently enrolled in sixth grade. The change will impact roughly 9,000 rising fifth-graders for the 2022-23 school year. Applications are due on Feb. 28. Incidentally, District 15 of Brooklyn's school system, which includes Cobble Hill to Red Hook and Park Slope to Sunset Park, was the City's first district to pilot a sibling priority program for middle schools three years ago. 2. Dreaming of owning a new property in Sunset Park? If you've got $1 million or more to spend, there are some upcoming open houses in the area this weekend, including a gorgeous 5 bed, 3 bath, 1,350 sq. ft. home at 638 4th Avenue and a 2 bed, 2 bath unit at 201 23rd Street. If million-dollar properties are out of your budget, check out a 2 bed, 2 bath, 859 sq. ft. unit at 762 41 Street, going for $660,000. (Sunset Park Patch)
  3. New York's Independent Redistricting Committee has hit a wall in their proposed district and senate maps, and Sunset Park is in the middle of both parties' arguments. The IRC has one more chance to redraw the maps, and if they fail to agree or if lawmakers reject those maps, politicians will attempt to redraw the districts themselves. The courts may step in and take over the process if this cannot be done by the end of February. (BK Reader)
