Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

1. "A happenstance encounter in Jacobi Medical Center between two suspected gang rivals led to a brazen shooting in the hospital's emergency room," Mayor Eric Adams said. "The man accused of opening fire in the hospital — first identified as Keber Martinez, 25, by the New York Post — walked into the hospital because of an asthma attack. While being treated, the accused shooter spotted a potentially gang-connected 'rival' and shot him." The Tuesday shooting is only the latest in a spate of high-profile gun violence incidents in New York City, one of which sadly, led to the deaths of two NYPD officers. (Patch)
2. Two men were hit by a train the same day, same hour. The incident in Brooklyn left 23-year-old Devon Smalls in critical condition. Only 30 minutes before Smalls was hit, a man was fatally run over by a 7 train at Grand Central Station. A person was also hit by a train in Harlem on Wednesday. The lawyer for the Smalls plans to demand information from the MTA, NYPD and any footage of the crash to investigate whether negligence played a part. (Patch)
3. The popular Pecking House is coming to Park Slope, just one neighborhood over from Sunset Park. They will be located at 244 Flatbush Ave., near St. Marks Place. The Flatbush Avenue storefront, which most recently was home to Taro Sushi, will offer a fast-casual version of the chicken menu, along with some new additions, like cocktail options, owners said. The restaurant, which includes 46 seats, will run from noon to 10 p.m. most days and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, according to the owners. (Patch)
