I am ready to start the Clean Program. Or at least, I’m ready to start the Pre-Clean Program. I have been eating badly for so many years that, in his book, Dr. Junger suggests I take a week or two to eat only the healthy foods listed in Clean.

My pantry is fully stocked with the ingredients needed to make most of Dr. Junger’s Clean recipes. All I need to do is buy fresh produce and organic chicken and I will be on my way to better health.

So what’s the hitch? In a word, preparedness. I have spent so many years eating on the run; grabbing whatever was handy when I was hungry. I can’t imagine planning my meals ahead of time; having food already prepared when I want it. I have long avoided the kitchen, claiming I was too busy or had more important things to do. In other words, I lied to myself. Regularly.

The biggest change I need to make before I can fully embrace getting Clean is to be honest with myself. I need to break down the wall of denial and resistance I have built up over the years.

Today, I am almost ready to begin a whole new, healthy life. And tomorrow the work continues.
