2 Firefighters Injured While Battling 3-Alarm Jericho House Fire, 'Extensive Damage' To Structure: NCFM

It took more than an hour to bring the fire under control with 85 firefighters on scene, fire marshals say.

JERICHO, NY — Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in Jericho on Monday afternoon, fire marshals said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said the Jericho Fire Department was dispatched at 1:08 p.m. on April 6 to a two-story split-level home on Maytime Drive, near Merry Lane in Jericho.

The fire advanced to a three-alarm assignment, and the Fire Marshal Hazmat Personnel responded to assist with a flammable liquid fire from run-off, fire marshals said.

The fire left "extensive" damage to the structure and was brought under control within approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes with 85 firefighters on scene, fire marshals said. The two firefighters who suffered minor injuries were treated at the scene, fire marshals said.

Fire departments provided mutual aid assistance from Hicksville, Syosset, Bethpage, Westbury, Glenwood, East Norwich, Plainview, Carle Place, Locust Valley, Farmingdale, and others – all firefighting operations were under the command of Chief Richardson of the Jericho FD, fire marshals said.

The Syosset FD and NC Fire Marshal Drone Teams responded as well to assist with the firefighting operations, fire marshals said.

According to fire marshals, the Town of Oyster Bay Building Department was on scene to assess the damage to the structure, and the NCFM's Office and NCPD Arson/Bomb Squad were on scene investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
