3-Alarm Fire At A Syosset Elementary School Early Tuesday Morning, School Will Remain Closed: NCFM
Fire marshals say no injuries were reported.
SYOSSET, NY — Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire at Westside Elementary School in Syosset early Tuesday morning, fire marshals said.
The Nassau County FireCom received an automatic fire alarm for smoke detectors at 4:40 a.m. on March 10, the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said.
The Oyster Bay Fire Company and Atlantic Steamer Fire Company responded to an electrical fire at the Lauren Hollow Rd. school, discovering smoke and fire in the school, Nassau County police and fire marshals said. The fire was contained to the library area and rooms in the central vicinity, fire marshals said. There was extensive structural damage to the building, police said.

Fire marshals said no injuries were reported, and the school was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Fire marshals said the Cold Spring Harbor School District put out a message that the school will remain closed for the day, and people should stay away from the area. NCPD said the school will remain closed until further notice.
The fire was under control within 2 hours with 16 Nassau and Suffolk County fire departments assisting, fire marshals said.

NCFM investigators and NCPD Arson Bomb Squad detectives are investigating the cause of the fire, fire marshals said.
