JERICHO, NY — The Sarah Grace Foundation hosted its annual 'An Evening of Magic' event at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho in April.

The event raised more than $6,000 for the Hicksville-based Sarah Grace Foundation, which is a foundation that was founded in 2003, about five months after Matthew Weippert's daughter passed away from an aggressive form of leukemia. Sarah was 12 years old when she passed.

"Thanks to our wonderful supporters, we have kept Sarah's memory alive for 23 years and provided support to countless children and families when they have needed it the most," Weippert said. "Our work won’t be done until the day we learn there are no more children with cancer. We don't do this alone."

The world-renowned magician Will Fern kept the audience in awe with close-up card and coin tricks. He brought audience members to the front of the room to assist with his tricks.

There was a dinner and raffle in support of the organization and its focus on supporting families with children battling cancer. The auction featured 33 raffle prizes, including baseball, concert, and comedy show tickets, restaurant gift cards, an overnight stay at Foxwoods Resort & Casino, and more. The proceeds support programs, such as the Escape Hatch, the Bead Program, Gabe's Chemo Duck, and Sarah Grace's Book Angels.

The foundation works with most of the pediatric cancer centers on Long Island and New York, and even some in other states like Florida. The organization can help families with transportation, as well as with financial aid, including assistance with groceries, funeral expenses, hospital bills, prescription co-pays, household bills, gift cards, purchasing a toy for the child, etc.

The Sarah Grace Foundation works with social workers who refer families to the Foundation through its "refer-a-child" program. The foundation has a dedicated team of volunteers called "Sarah's Angels."
