Jackson Avenue Construction Begins

Construction due to the Jackson Avenue Improvement Project begins on Tuesday, May 17th.

Despite the damp, misty and foggy weather Monday morning, the curtain went up on the newest show in town – the Jackson Avenue Improvement Project.

Construction began on the west side of Jackson Avenue at the corner of Lewis Lane. A work crew was busy digging trenches on the lawns of the two corner houses. No, this was not a new landscaping craze. It was the beginning of the long awaited project.

Further down Jackson Avenue by the Citgo Station on the corner of Walters Avenue, a Verizon crew was continuing their work on the telephone lines.

On Tuesday, May 17th, the first section of the project will be started from Jericho Turnpike, north to Pine Road. Residents located on the westside of Jackson Avenue, wishing to travel north towards the railroad, must exit the development only using Beatrice Avenue to enter Jackson Avenue. Edward, Dorcas, Walker and Dawes Avenues will be closed to northbound exiting traffic only. Construction personnel will be at Beatrice Avenue to direct traffic in an effort to avoid delays.

During the next 18 months of this project work, you may call Daniel Midgette, Project Manager for the Town of Oyster Bay, at 516-677-5897, or TOBAY Emergency at 516-677-5757 with any questions or concerns.
