Jackson Avenue Improvement Project -- A Reality!

Jackson Avenue Improvement Project to start on Monday, May 16, 2011.

After almost 10 years of lobbying county and town officials and attending numerous meetings, the residents of Syosset will be involved in the biggest show in town -- the renovation of Jackson Avenue.

After months of coming attractions -- tree removal, installation of new telephone poles, line work by Verizon and Cablevision -- and setting up the stage props (orange barrels digital display signs), the curtain goes up on Monday, May 16th. Digital display signs along Jericho Turnpike, Jackson Avenue and South Oyster Bay Road announced the coming event.

This project will include the complete renovation of Jackson Avenue from Jericho Turnpike to the Syosset LIRR. It will be realigned to provide a safer sight line for drivers; a center turn lane along the entire length of the road; continuous sidewalks on both sides of the road; installation of new and the cleaning of existing storm water drainage pipes; the rebuilding of existing catch basins; and the repaving of the entire avenue. An additional traffic light will be installed at The Mall and Dawes Avenue.

What will Act I, scene 1 be about? With the delivery of cement piping and cement vaults today along the avenue, it is likely that this project will begin with the installation of drainage and catch basins. However, we will just have to watch and see as the curtain goes up on Monday.
