Jackson Avenue Improvement Project — Week 25

Utility work was the focus of last week's activities on the Jackson Avenue Improvement Project.

This week the utilitiy crews from Nassau County continued their work on the traffic lights at the LIRR crossing, Ira Road, Convent Road, Teibrook Avenue, The Mall and Dawes Avenue.

The traffic lights at Dawes Avenue and The Mall are now in operational mode.

The utility crew from the Town of Oyster Bay continued their work of installing the new street lights in front of St. Edward's Church.

A work crew also was working on the sidewalk by the new stores adjacent to Bella Notte Restaurant, where cement was laid on Friday to complete this section. The same crew was also working on the curb and sidewalk in front of Lex Realty on the corner of Ira Road. This hopefully will be finished in the coming week.

I was able to speak to a person working on these projects concerning the final layer of asphalt from Pine Road to the LIRR and the traffic signal at Convent Road, which seems to take a long time to change for those vehicles entering Jackson Avenue from this road. He said that the final asphalt will be laid when they are finished with the construction at the corner of Ira Road. As for the timing of the traffic light on Convent Road, he said that he was aware of it, and that he was going to speak to the proper department of Nassau County who handles the traffic lights. He mentioned that the "trip" switch may need to be reset.
