Jackson Avenue Improvement Project – Week Eight

The Jackson Avenue Improvement Project wrapped up its second month of construction work this past Friday.

The first two months of the renovation of Jackson Avenue is now one for the books. Although a shortened work week due to the July 4th holiday, the construction crews returned Tuesday morning and kept up their organized and steady pace of work on the reconstruction of the avenue.

They continued to pour the cement for the sidewalks on the west side of the avenue from Willis Avenue to Railroad Avenue.

This week also saw the crews continue taking up the old roadway on the west-side of the avenue from Edward Avenue to Albert Avenue. They removed the old cement roadway that was under the asphalt, which was removed the previous week. The cement looked to be 8 to 10 inches thick.

A layer of dirt, followed by an initial coat of asphalt, was put down from Edward Avenue to Albert Avenue.

The traffic seemed to be flowing smoothly again this week despite the heavy construction work and construction vehicles, although I must say that the northbound lane is starting to show its wear with potholes in various places. “Caution” is the word for those who travel north to the Hamlet of Syosset.
