Sonia Rutigliano Seeks Reelection to Syosset Board of Education

Syosset School District continues to provide our children with the education each of them deserve to succeed.

My name is Sonia Rutigliano and I am running for the Syosset Board of Education. I have been a member of this community for the past 27 years, am a local business owner and homeowner, and have had four children graduate from the Syosset School District.

We have witnessed some tremendous economic hard times the past few years, but throughout that time our school district has remained strong and upheld the same standard of excellence that was afforded to my oldest son 27 years ago when he entered this school district. The Syosset School District is nationally-recognized for its diverse curriculum, special education after-school programs, and attentive teachers. I believe every child deserves the best education and that’s why I, and probably you too, moved to this district.  Syosset offers more than most schools on Long Island and throughout the country.  My children were well prepared for college and know that most graduates will say that college was a “breeze” freshman year since they were taught good study habits and learned the knowledge necessary to succeed.

As a parent, business owner and homeowner, I support the School Board’s mission to remain fiscally responsible to its taxpayers. In my three years on the board, I have personally worked alongside my fellow board members to reduce the school budget expenses by $15 million, without cutting any of our services and programs. We support our children’s individual interests and are proud to say that through these economic ups and downs, we’ve been able to preserve all of our programs, including our sports and arts programs, as well as special-interest classes, which many schools have had to cut in recent years. Just as importantly, our school district has one of the best special education programs, and it continues to flourish, providing our special needs children with the attention and care they deserve to excel. We have consistently worked within the budget parameters set by the government to provide a top-notch education system and will continue to do so, while also considering the needs of our taxpayers and keeping the taxes as low as possible while not cutting programs..

Throughout my time as a resident of this community, I have consistently held an active role in the district, having served as PTA President, Vice President, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer at the elementary, middle school, high school, and council levels. I support our district’s goal of continuing to provide the standard of excellence that was afforded to each of my children, and I am looking forward to the opportunity of continuing my work with my fellow board members to uphold our district’s stellar reputation, providing our children with the education each of them deserve to succeed.

Pease don’t forget to vote on May 15th.  Your vote is very important to continue the excellence.

Thank you very much for your support in this election.
