The Illusion of Dieting
Sometimes the illusion of dieting is more satisfying than the real thing.

Wednesday was Registered Dietitian Day. In my inbox, I received an email that informed me I may now call myself an RDN. As if the public isn't already confused enough, RDN stands for registered dietitian nutritionist. When it comes to food and nutrition, I am an expert. I have a private practice right here in Woodbury that specializes in weight loss - with a sub-specialty in the illusion of weight loss. It seems many people are satisfied creating the illusion they are on a diet. Of course I'm not talking about you, but let me know if the following describes anyone you know.
Harry Houdini has nothing on the skilled diet illusionist.
- Carries gym bag everywhere, but never takes it out of the car or actually goes to the gym.
- Drinks copious amounts of water in a large refillable water bottle.
- Their diet is so restrictive, ordering in a restaurant often causes an uncomfortable scene with the waitstaff.
- Actually, this person has never been seen eating anything.
- Shopping cart is packed with "lite" food and diet desserts
- Is always on a "diet" but never loses a pound.
- Goes to weekly diet meetings.
- Is happy to offer unsolicited diet advice to others, such as "don't eat fruit it's loaded with sugar."
Happy National Nutrition Month. Eat less, move more, do the right thing. People will notice.
