Join with patrons at libraries throughout New York State in showing how much can be accomplished by working together. Donate a 36-inch by 36-inch or larger knitted or crocheted blanket to be delivered to We Care Blankets and distributed to children undergoing chemotherapy. All yarn must be 100 percent acrylic for cleaning and allergy reasons. Blankets must be fringe-free. Donations of unused, washable yarn are also welcome. Please join me as I share the story behind Denim Wars, a novel of fiction based on a true story—my story—and the fiercely competitive world of Seventh Avenue that I was fortunate enough to experience firsthand.
Set against the backdrop of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Denim Wars takes readers inside one of fashion’s fiercest battles, when three powerhouse brands collided in a high-stakes fight for power, success, and the right to define what “cool” meant to the world.
Showroom rivalries, glossy ad campaigns, young models on the edge of fame, and unforgettable nights at Studio 54 blurred together in a culture where style was currency, ambition was relentless, and risk was the only rule.
I would love to share with you the stories and inspiration behind Denim Wars and talk about what was a very special and exciting time in New York City and the fashion industry.

Jay Estate

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.

Our Mission The Children's Orchestra Society, founded in 1962 by Dr. H.T. Ma, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to "teaching the language of music" to children and teens. Our mission is to cultivate and nurture children and teach them teamwork and life skills through music-learning and performing in orchestral and chamber music settings. Members of COS receive excellent training in classical music and opportunities to perform in concerts with their peers as well as with well-established musicians.
