Democratic Primary — Incumbent Legislator Challenged By Former Town Supervisor

Arnold Drucker and Lewis Yevoli are facing off for Nassau County's 16th Legislative District.

In the Democratic primary for the Nassau County 16th Assembly District, incumbent Arnold Drucker is being challenged by former Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor and longtime State Assemb. Lewis Yevoli. The district includes Plainview, Old Bethpage, Jericho, Syosset, Woodbury, Hicksville, Old Westbury and Roslyn Heights.

Arnold Drucker is serving his first term as a legislator, having won a special election to fill the seat last year after the death of Legislator Judy Jacobs. A former Nassau Community College trustee, Drucker is still a relative political newcomer. He says he advocates for governmental transparency and maintaining public transportation. He was recently endorsed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Challenging Drucker is Lewis Yevoli, who has been in politics for decades. He served as the Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor from 1992 to 1997, and prior to that, he served nine terms as a state Assemblyman from 1974 through 1991. Yevoli is known as a maverick who has often broken with his party in the past, even endorsing Republican candidates for offices. He claims to be a fighter of corruption who wants to take the fight to the county.
