'Dragon Slayers' Academy' Author Meets With Syosset Students

Popular children’s author Kate McMullan recently met with students at Baylis Elementary School to talk books during a workshop sponsored by the Baylis PTA Author-Illustrator Committee.

If her name sounds familiar it’s because the Baylis library contains many of McMullan’s books, including the popular “Dragon Slayers’ Academy” series.

McMullan’s workshop in the school library included a student Q&A where she provided some insight on what it’s like to be an author. Some of the questions included:

• “When did you decide you wanted to become a writer?”
• “Where do you get the inspiration for your books?”
• “How do you handle rejection?”

“You have to have thick skin to be an author,” McMullan told the students in response to the last question.

McMullan also took the time to autograph books.
