The temperature in one Syosset classroom has been hotter than 90 degrees for a week and a half.
Teachers want parents to know about the concerning temperatures and the need for window units in classrooms.

“So many children have allergies and other health concerns,” a Syosset elementary school teacher said. “If we can’t leave a child in a hot car then it should also apply to a hot classroom.”
September isn’t the only month with scorching temperatures. It also gets this hot in June, the teacher said.

Teachers are bringing awareness to the serious heat in classrooms so that parents will hopefully address the issue at board meetings.
“It really is not acceptable,” the teacher said.
