Husband, Wife Plead Guilty to Stealing $225K From Syosset Retailer

The couple was ordered to pay full restitution.

An Oceanside couple pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing $225,000 in merchandise and shipping costs from a Syosset online retailer and selling the goods as their own, Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced Friday.

Ilana Kessler, 30, also known as Ilana Kessler-Reminick, pled guilty to first degree scheme to defraud and her husband Drew Reminick, 30, pled guilty to disorderly conduct.

The Nassau County District Attorney’s office said ArmorMount, a provider of flat-panel television wall mounts, employed Kessler-Reminick, to handle contracted sales management. From 2012 to 2014, Kessler — with her husband — allegedly stole merchandise from ArmorMount while employed there.

The couple, who was arrested in March, then sold the stolen items through multiple platforms, including eBay, the DA’s office said.

“Retailers count on their employees to be honest and hardworking, yet this couple took advantage of that trust,” Singas said in a statement.

The couple was ordered to pay full restitution of $225,000.

“These defendants thought they concocted a foolproof scheme to steal merchandise from Kessler’s employer, but now they will spend the next few decades of their lives paying off a $200,000 judgment,” Singas said in a statement.

The couple, who will be jointly liable for the full restitution, already paid $25,300 at the time of the plea. Kessler-Reminick was ordered to pay $500 a month while Reminick will have a civil judgment of $200,000 issued against him at the time of sentence, the DA reports.

They will be sentenced on Oct. 22.
