Students at Syosset High School toured through a rolling library when the Digital Bookmobile pulled up in the school’s parking lot earlier this month.
The Bookmobile is a traveling online library system called OverDrive that allows students to research and check out e-books using their student IDs and an Internet connection. Once checked out, the books are available on student Kindles and Nooks.

Syosset High School Librarians Lynn Ortlieb and Paige Rowse hosted the event. Students filed into the Bookmobile during separate class trips throughout the day, interacting with research and checkout stations inside the trailer.
Outside the Bookmobile, a table held questionnaires that helped students narrow down the types of books they like by answering a series of personality and entertainment-guided survey questions.

Attached to an 18-wheel rig, the Bookmobile travels to numerous school districts, setting students up with an alternative access to books that might not be available in e-book format at their local school and community libraries.
