Obituary: John Eckelberry​, of Syosset, Dies at 82

Obituary: John Evans Eckelberry, of Syosset, passed away of complications from esophageal cancer on Thursday, Oct 27. He was 82.

John was born on December 11, 1933 in East Cleveland, Ohio.

He graduated from Montclair High School, Yale University, and the Artillery and Guided Missile School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a 1193 Field Artillery Unit Commander and completed his voluntary commitment of active duty.

He was graduated from Yale University in 1955 and began his Wall Street career at Clark Dodge in the Syndicate Department before moving on to Kidder Peabody, Paine Webber, Solomon Brothers, Albert Frank Financial Advertising.

John retired as Chairman of Doremus and Company.

He was a member of the Meadow Brook Club, and served on the Board of Stewards from 1985 to 2007. He was also a member of The Brook and Piping Rock Club.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mollie (Stark) Eckelberry; his children Sybil Hajek, Emily Johnson (Douglas); stepson Alan Houghton (Anne) and two grandsons Stark Johnson and Riggs Johnson.
