Police: Man Drove Drunk in Dix Hills Crash That Injured 3
The man and two women involved in the crash were taken to a local hospital on Tuesday night, police said.
A Brentwood man was charged with DWI after his Toyota Sienna collided with another vehicle and injured himself and two women in Dix Hills on Tuesday night, police said.
According to authorities, Bernabe Ortega-Vela, 50, was driving eastbound Vanderbilt Parkway, near Candlewood Path, when his vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and collided with a Nissan Maxima traveling westbound at 8 p.m.
The driver of the Nissan lost control of the vehicle and crashed off the road and into the woods, while the Toyota hit a utility pole on the westbound side of the road, police said.

Officers arrived to the scene and realized Ortega-Vela was intoxicated, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Ortega-Vela and two women involved in the crash were taken to Huntington Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

About 30 Dix Hills volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the crash with three heavy rescue trucks, three ambulances, first responder and paramedic units. The units were under the direction of chief Robert Fling and assistant chiefs Tom Napolitano and Joe Williamson.
