Proposed Assisted Living Facility In Woodbury Moving Forward

Construction on the $38 million project is expected to be begin soon.

WOODBURY, NY - The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency recently approved an economic development compact for a proposed assisted living facility in Woodbury.

The $38 million project is expected to produce $141.6 million in economic benefits to the county and $5.7 million in new tax revenues.

"There is a large population that is in need of assisted living. This facility will help address the issue of finding suitable housing in Nassau County for those in need of these services,” Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said. "I commend the IDA for their efforts in bringing another first-class assisted living facility to our County and for the jobs that it will create.”

The compact, approved by the IDA at its Sept. 27 meeting, will assist Benchmark Senior Living in building and equipping a two-story, 74,000-square-foot assisted living facility on an under-utilized property at 900 Woodbury Road.

Waltham, Mass.-based Benchmark Senior Living plans to redevelop the 3.8-acre site into an 89-unit assisted living facility.

Benchmark plans to hire a total of 55 full-time-equivalent employees within three years of the facility’s completion.

Construction, expected to begin shortly, is expected to result in the creation of 200 full-time-equivalent construction jobs during an 18-month period.

“This project will help to meet the growing needs of a segment of the population who are no longer able to live alone and thereby enhance their quality of life while removing a blighted, under-used property,” IDA Executive Director Joseph Kearney said.
