SLEEPLESS IN SYOSSET
OK…well maybe it’s not Seattle (that was a great movie!)…and actually…it’s not Syosset. It’s “Sleepless in Jericho”…but I wanted it to sound more alliterative! I’ve had a sleep problem for just about my entire adult life. (Now I don’t mean “sleeping around”…I mean “falling and staying asleep!”)
I have to admit – I’ve been taking Ambien for quite some time…and thankfully, I don’t have the problems we’ve all seen on the news. I don’t get up in the middle of the night and eat or drive or anything else! But, unfortunately, I suspect that I’ve become somewhat immune to this medication, and it really doesn’t help me to get the sleep I need.

One of my friends suggested that I try Xanax. Of course I’ve heard of Xanax, but never really considered it to help me sleep. But why not try it!
So…I tried it. I actually broke the pill in half to start. And so…here’s what happened.

I was trying to sleep the other night…I said “trying”. I KNOW it’s easy for some people, but it ain’t easy for me. So I was still up at 3:45 AM…and not a happy camper. So I said to myself, “Try the Xanax!” And as I mentioned above, I took one half of a Xanax.
Well…the good news is…I actually fell asleep. The bad news is…I had a very vivid dream. Here’s the dream: my husband, Larry, and I were in this huge hotel suite. One big room…bedroom and living room combined. And we were going to sleep. We turned out the light on the night table…and suddenly the lamp on the coffee table went on. I got up and turned off that light…and then another light in the room went on. This kept happening and happening. We could NOT turn out the lights in our room! And I was not able to fall asleep!
And then I woke up. So…I couldn’t fall asleep…and then…when I DID fall asleep…I couldn’t fall asleep in my dream! How lucky am I?!!
So…Ambien, Xanax…thanks a lot! Anybody have any ideas for me? OY!
