The Syosset Fire Department responded with a firefighter assistance and search team (F.A.S.T.). Its job is to be on the ready in case another firefighter gets trapped in a blaze.

"On a fire like this they'll be one F.A.S.T. team, and on a bigger fire there might be two," Syosset Fire Department Dep. Chief Peter Silver said on scene. "If you have to call somebody after someone gets trapped, it's already too late."
