Syosset Middle Schooler Wins Long Island Regional Spelling Bee
Rika Mizoguchi will go on to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.

Congratulations to Syosset’s own Rika Mizoguchi, who became the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee on Sunday.
The Thompson Middle School eighth grader placed first in the competition, which was held at Hofstra University.

She correctly spelled the word “adnate” to win the competition in the 17th round of finals, according to Newsday.
Hofstra has hosted this competition, open to students grade 4-8, since 2012.

Following this win, Mizoguchi continues her quest to become a national champion. She will represent Long Island at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on May 25-26.
