Syosset Middle Schoolers Fly Kites for Science

Who says studying density can't be fun?

Students at Harry B. Thompson Middle School built tetrahedron kites and flew them outside in order to hone their math and science skills.

Students in Jennifer Mulligan’s science classes calculated the volume of their tetrahedrons for mathematical purposes before sending their kites into the sky as an introduction to the principles of flight.

“The kites came out great, and the kids had so much fun flying them,” said Mulligan, who provided copies of the tetrahedron instruction books to students, since several of them indicated they wanted to rebuild their kites at home.
