SYOSSET, NY--Syosset residents approved a 2019-20 school budget on Tuesday.

The $236,977,020 proposed budget was approved by a margin of 1,673-735. The budget is a 2.88 percent increase from the current year's. It's accompanied by a 2.49 percent bump in the tax levy. That is well below the district's 3.34 percent tax levy cap, so the budget only needed to be approved by a majority vote.

School board incumbents Tracy Frankel (1,499), Robert Gershon (1,373) and Susan Parker (1,275) retained their seats. Thomas A. Rotolo (1,283) was also elected to the board. After affidavit ballots are counted tomorrow, it will be determined between Parker and Rotolo who will occupy the three-year term and who will fill out a one-year term to fill the balance of the unexpired term due to a premature resignation. Court Cousins (1,236) and Uzma Syed (1,173) fell short in their bids.
