ROSLYN, NY — Sweet Harbor Coffee is celebrating six months of caffeinating Roslyn residents.

Alexis, a Roslyn Village native, and her husband Joe Jensen opened the shop in October 2025 on Old Northern Boulevard.

Her connection to the coffee industry dates back to 2016, when she worked as a barista in New York City while attending graduate school at St. John’s University. She spent the next ten years working in the corporate world, but said, "coffee shops were always a big part of my life."

"Sometimes even driving up to two hours just to check one out," Alexis said.

Joe, meanwhile, spent the past ten years working for a construction union.

"He always talked about wanting to build something of his own one day," Alexis said. "When we started talking about opening a coffee shop, it felt like the perfect way to bring our shared dream to life."

While the duo was living in Williamsburg, Alexis said they "were constantly inspired by the small business owners around us and the culture each café brought to its corner of the neighborhood."

They found out Alexis was pregnant and, about a week later, found a space in Roslyn.

"Life moved very quickly," she said. "We looked at each other and said, 'This is everything we’ve been praying for, all at once. Let’s go for it.'"

Their daughter Nora was born in July, three months before opening Sweet Harbor Coffee: "Two dreams came true."

Alexis grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, so the idea of owning a business had always intrigued her.

"More than anything, Joe and I wanted to create something together, somewhere we could build and grow as a team," she said. "That said, this is our first time running our own business, so we’re learning something new every day."

The couple wants to introduce specialty coffee to Roslyn with high-quality coffee in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Some of their highlights include their popular Maple Sea Salt Latte and an Irish coffee with vanilla cold foam and flash brew in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Alexis said the shop becomes a "place along the way" for the community to "stop in, take a break, and have a great conversation with whoever is behind the counter or sitting nearby."

The space takes on a different energy as the week goes on — serving as a calm spot to work, read, or chat with a friend over coffee on weekdays, to harboring a more lively atmosphere on weekends.

"[On weekends], the music is louder, we’re serving lots of iced lattes, it's a fun vibe," she said.
