VFW Post In Syosset Honors Local Heroes, First Responders

Local police, fire, and EMS professionals were recognized for their service and dedication.

SYOSSET, NY — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6394 in Syosset hosted a dinner on April 8 for the recipients of the Post's Public Safety Awards.

These awards are given annually by the VFW to local law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians, who are nominated by their superiors and then selected by the VFW.

There is one award per category, and to be recognized for the award, according to VFW NY, candidates must have demonstrated:

  • Recognition by their colleagues or those they serve.
  • Consistent excellence in the performance of their duties.
  • Consistent dedication to their official responsibilities over a period of years and continuous growth in responsibilities and skills within their profession.

The awardees were Detective Nathan Rambahrose, Firefighter/Ex-Chief Kenneth Johnson Sr., and Police Communications Operator Denise Ferguson.

They were presented by Commander Mitch Furman, Quartermaster Joe Grehan, and Safety Committee Chairman Jay Caputo.
