Woodbury Man Scammed, Money Stolen: Police
The man, 71, was told his girlfriend was in a crash and needed him to pay her bail, police say.
WOODBURY, NY — A 71-year-old Woodbury man was scammed, Nassau police said.
The man received a phone call at noon on Wednesday from someone claiming she was his girlfriend, police said. A man then got on the phone and told the Woodbury man that his girlfriend was in a crash and he would be receiving a phone call from Legal Aid about it, police said.
A woman he did not know then called him and told him he would need to provide money for his girlfriend's bail, police said. He was told a courier would be sent to his home to pick up the money, police said. A man arrived at the man's home, took the money, and left, police said.

Detectives are looking for the scammers, who are wanted for grand larceny.
"The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds," the department wrote.

Detectives asked anyone with information on the scam to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
