Officials say she'd been warned earlier that night not to drive, and local residents who rushed to help are now emphasizing child safety and the consequences of dangerous decisions.
2. Syracuse Poster Project seeks poets for 2027 series, including one special haiku for Baltimore Woods (informnny.com) — Poets and artists now have a chance to be featured in kiosks along Salina and Warren streets in downtown Syracuse through the Syracuse Poster Project's 2027 series. Submissions of up to three haikus are open until Sept. 11, with a "Hidden Gems" theme and a special haiku dedicated to Baltimore Woods, cash prizes, and final posters revealed in April 2027.
3. Amazon aims for delivery drones to reach 500 US neighborhoods by end of 2026 (arstechnica.com) — Amazon plans to bring its Prime Air drone deliveries to the Syracuse metro area, aiming to launch service here alongside Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, and Boise. The company wants to expand to nearly 500 U.S. communities by the end of 2026, promising 30–60 minute deliveries while also raising questions about how neighborhoods will handle increased drone traffic and noise.
4. Fundraiser planned to benefit motorcyclists injured in Canton crash (wwnytv.com) — Two motorcyclists badly hurt in a Canton crash are now recovering at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, and friends are organizing a Sept. 19 motorcycle run to help with their expenses. Family members describe devastating injuries and a chaotic crash scene, while state police continue investigating and have not filed any charges.
