📰 News we're reading

1. Syracuse meets EPA's lead regulations for 4th consecutive term (dailyorange.com) — Syracuse's drinking water has met federal lead standards for the fourth straight testing term, with recent samples showing levels well below EPA limits. City officials are also mapping lead pipe replacement and continuing chemical treatment, after years of scrutiny over lead exposure and a 2025 petition urging an EPA emergency declaration.

2. NY appeals court allows lawsuit against hospital to proceed (nydailyrecord.com) — A New York appellate court has cleared the way for a late medical-injury lawsuit involving SUNY Upstate University Hospital and Upstate Community Hospital in Syracuse to move forward. Judges ruled the claimant showed enough evidence that excessive force during psychiatric restraint may have caused a serious elbow injury, finding the lower court abused its discretion in blocking a late claim. The case will now proceed in the Court of Claims.

3. COME FROM AWAY to Open Syracuse Stage's 26/27 Season (broadwayworld.com) — Syracuse Stage is opening its 2026–27 season with the hit musical "Come From Away," running Sept. 16 to Oct. 11 at Archbold Theatre on East Genesee Street. The production includes free First Responders Night, pay-what-you-will performances, trivia, talkbacks, and multiple accessible showings, giving Syracuse theatergoers many ways to experience the show.

4. Syracuse Man Builds Tiny Homes to Help the Homeless (mymodernmet.com) — A Syracuse nonprofit, A Tiny Home for Good, is quietly reshaping how formerly homeless residents find stable housing by building and renovating small, private homes across the city. Founder Andrew Lunetta now houses 47 people in 23 tiny homes and nearly two dozen refurbished properties, backed by ongoing case management. His work recently drew national attention when CNN named him its first Hero of the Year.

5. 2026 NYS Fair super guide to food and fun: 75+ meats, sweets, drinks and rides worth trying (syracuse.com) — If you're heading to the New York State Fair in Geddes, just outside Syracuse, this guide maps out where to find the best-value bites, wildest treats, and standout rides right now. syracuse.com reporters sampled everything from bargain sugar waffles and creative potatoes to spicy squid and top cocktails, then ranked what's truly worth your money and time on the fairgrounds.

  • Hi neighbors, I removed the cement slab that served as our back stoop expecting to find a layer of cinderblocks on solid ground.
Instead I found a cinder block-lined hole at least 8 feet deep. It's partly filled with construction debris so I can't tell how far down it goes… (Nextdoor Onondaga / Semloh)
  • I'm looking forward to seeing The Commodores at the fair tomorrow.
As a white boy growing up in the 70s I mostly listened to guitar driven rock music. Me and my brother loved that guitar solo in "Easy". So smooth… (Nextdoor Court-Woodlawn)
