📰 News we're reading

• Tornado watch issued for much of Upstate NY: 70 mph winds, hail, flooding also possible (syracuse.com) — Syracuse and much of Upstate New York are under a tornado watch until 11 p.m. tonight, with storms capable of 70 mph winds, large hail and flash flooding. The New York State Fair is closing early, and northern Onondaga County faces heightened flood risk as more heavy rain is expected overnight, so residents should monitor alerts and be ready to take shelter.

• Drone program offers aerial view of restored Onondaga Lake habitats Sept. 12 (fingerlakes1.com) — Syracuse residents can sign up now to watch professional drone pilots survey restored wildlife habitat along Onondaga Lake during a public program on Saturday, Sept. 12. Participants will meet at the State Fairgrounds Orange Lot, learn how drones monitor shoreline restoration and wildlife, and support ongoing conservation work; space is limited and advance registration is required.

• Ithaca College profile traces Matt Mulcahy's four decades in local news (fingerlakes1.com) — Longtime Central New York news anchor Matt Mulcahy, now managing editor at Syracuse's CNY Central, is profiled for his four decades of local reporting and investigative work. The piece highlights how his Syracuse newsroom, including several Ithaca College grads, continues digging into unresolved cases and scrutinizing public institutions that affect residents' daily lives.
