Today's riddle: What do you call a paper airplane that can't fly? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Cheapest gas stations in Syracuse (stacker.com) — If you're filling up around Syracuse, here's where regular gas is cheapest right now, starting with Fuel Hub Truck Stop on State Fair Boulevard in the city. The list also highlights relatively low prices in nearby Camillus, East Syracuse, North Syracuse, Brewerton and beyond, helping you compare options before your next drive.
2. New drone port at Upstate speeds transport of lab specimens, meds and blood products (cnycentral.com) — Upstate University Hospital has launched its Air Upstate drone port, already flying lab specimens between the Upstate Transplant Center in downtown Syracuse and the Upstate Cancer Center to speed test results. The program, which has completed thousands of medication deliveries since 2023, will expand to move meds and blood products between more Central New York hospitals and directly to patients at discharge.
3. GOP county exec and Dem lawmakers join to create $25M Onondaga County housing fund (syracuse.com) — Onondaga County lawmakers have approved a 2027 budget that cuts the property tax rate by 9% and creates a new $25 million housing fund, a move especially important for Syracuse residents facing housing pressures. The bipartisan deal also launches an Onondaga County development corporation, OnHome, to finance mixed-income housing and neighborhood revitalization, plus funding for Micron-related supply chain projects, Main Street improvements, and farm loans.
4. New Syracuse Hancock Airport program lets visitors bypass security (localsyr.com) — If you have TSA PreCheck, Syracuse Hancock International Airport now lets you apply for a free Gateside pass so you can go beyond security even when you're not flying. With up to 75 passes issued daily, you can meet loved ones at the gate, grab food post-security, and spend extra time together before departure.
5. AFOSI builds partnerships to protect emerging technology (af.mil) — National security and technology experts recently met at Hancock Field in Syracuse to improve how government and private organizations share information about protecting emerging technologies. Local civic and business leaders joined federal agencies to discuss foreign intelligence threats, reporting suspicious activity, and building early relationships so Central New York innovators know where to turn if something seems off.
