Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Syracuse community gathers for third annual memorial marking Oct. 7 attacks (cnycentral.com) — Syracuse residents gathered at Temple Adath Yeshurun on Wednesday for the third annual memorial honoring lives lost and communities scarred by the Oct. 7 attacks. Organizers emphasized supporting those still coping with trauma and highlighted how the tragedy has strengthened bonds within Jewish communities in Syracuse and around the world.
2. Fire damages house on North Side of Syracuse (syracuse.com) — A North Side Syracuse home at 1407 Oak St. suffered heavy fire, smoke, and water damage Wednesday night after flames broke out on the second floor and spread into the attic. Syracuse firefighters needed about 40 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze, battling clutter that complicated access, but the home's only resident was away when the fire started.
3. Syracuse murder suspect found in South Carolina, police say (syracuse.com) — Syracuse police say a man wanted in an April fatal shooting on the South Side has been captured in Columbia, South Carolina and now faces extradition. The charges stem from a daytime gunfire incident near Warner and Webster avenues that killed 39-year-old Deron McGee, injured a 10-year-old boy, and briefly put nearby Brighton Academy Middle School on lockdown.
4. New study show one in four schools in Onondaga County have high lead levels in drinking water (centralcurrent.org) — A new study shows more than one in four Onondaga County public schools, all in the suburbs, have at least one drinking-water outlet above New York's lead limit, while Syracuse City School District buildings reported none over the threshold. Advocates still warn that any lead is unsafe and urge a filter-first, countywide plan to protect students' drinking water without burdening taxpayers.
5. A Syracuse legend takes the reins: Gerry McNamara vows to restore the Orange to 'national relevance' (eldoradonews.com) — Syracuse basketball legend Gerry McNamara is now head coach and pledging to restore the Orange to national prominence, a change that could re-energize fans across Syracuse and Central New York. He's bringing his trademark toughness, key players from Siena, and an aggressive push for NIL fundraising to fill the JMA Wireless Dome and revive the program's winning tradition.
