Vanna Pacella is an ethereal Pop/Rock songwriter and musician with a unique blend of powerful emotion and raw intensity. Vanna's haunting vocals and profound lyricism are complemented by intricate guitar and expressive keyboard solos. Vanna's sound can be compared to classic light rock such as Fleetwood Mac, Bonnie Raitt, Pink Floyd, and The Police with a hint of modern pop. Her debut album "Listen" just came out on July 25th, 2025 and weaves together pop/rock, soul/R&amp;B, and classic rock elements. On her "The Less I Know" Tour as a Trio band following her New England Music Award Win for 2025 Best New Artist and having just won The New England Songwriting Competition.
Mosaic Mind is a Syracuse, NY-based 5-piece alt/prog rock band that plays covers and original music influenced by everything from Foo Fighters to Pink Floyd. The band has played alongside local CNY acts like Jess Novak, Chris LeFever Band, and Dark River Stone, as well as national acts like LA-based progressive rock trio Coevality. WHAT IS THE SYRACUSE STORY PROJECT?
A monthly open-mic storytelling event in which anyone in the audience can share a 5-minute story on the night's theme.
THE NIGHTLY PROGRAM
Doors at 6:30pm. Storyteller hopefuls put their name in a hat
Event begins at 7:00pm. Local poet and MC, Tim Carter, will kick things off. Most nights will kick off with a short performance by a local artist.
10 stories, 5 minutes each. One by one, storytellers are randomly chosen from the hat and take the stage to share their personal story.
WHAT ARE THE RULES?
We follow The Moth storytelling guidelines. Check out the link in our bio for more info, but here are the basics:
. It must be TRUE. . It must be ON THEME. . It must have STAKES. . It must be YOUR STORY TO TELL. . It must be ON TIME (5 min max!) . It must be TOLD, not read. (No notes, paper or cheat sheets allowed on stage.)
The following should never be included in your story, · Racial slurs or hate speech. · Caricatures, "explaining" a culture that is not your own. · Making another person's identity the punchline. · Celebrating unwanted sexual advances.
ELEMENTS OF A GREAT STORY
Have a great first line that sets up the stakes and grabs attention.
Connect with the audience. Choose a meaningful story. Show what you value and who you are.
It should be more than an anecdote. How did it feel emotionally, how you were affected, how did you react?
Practice, practice, practice .... but remember that rote memorization can kill the vibe!

Cayuga Community College

AUBURN, NY - Law Scholar Alfred E. Piombino will lead a rare, in-person New York State Notary Public Workshop on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Cayuga Community College Workforce Development Center, 248 Grant Avenue in Auburn. Parking is free and no car permit is required. This event is the only in-person training event of its kind in Central New York.
This acclaimed program provides a comprehensive review of the New York State Notary Public role, duties and responsibilities and delivers effective official state law examination preparation.
“Attendance at this seminar is a must for every prospective Notary Public to properly prepare for the serious legal authority, duties and myriad responsibilities of holding this public officer appointment,” said Alfred E. Piombino, the state course pioneer and faculty.
“Simply taking and passing the 40-question examination, implemented in 1950 by New York Secretary of State Thomas J. Curran, is a good start, but it’s not sufficient preparation by itself to fully understand and execute all the required duties,” said Piombino.
“First appointed as a New York Notary Public in 1981, I easily passed the state law examination because I was a business school student, but I really didn’t fully understand the scope and depth of my duty which inspired my further legal research," he adds.
“This frustration with a lack of accurate, adequate resources sparked my sense of intellectual curiosity and was the catalyst of forty years of passion for dedicating myself to this niche, legal scholarship, researching, writing and teaching - to not only help other legal practitioners better protect themselves from legal liability, but also to protect the integrity of the civil and criminal court systems,” adds Piombino.
“Notarial legal ineptitude, intentional or unintentional, definitively leads to the insidious denigration of all courts, erodes public confidence and stymies good-faith efforts to effectively and fairly deliver justice to litigants, victims and defendants," Piombino emphasized. 
The New York Secretary of State administers the proctored, written law examination through the Department of State on a regular basis in North Syracuse and throughout New York, but not at the training event. Official examination schedules will be distributed at the briefing. Four sample law examinations and answer keys are provided to every participant as a self-study aid for review after the briefing.
Piombino is a highly acclaimed teacher, court expert witness, prolific book author, past state court official and former State University of New York (SUNY) college business law faculty. He is the renowned scholar on New York Notary Law and Practice and the original curriculum developer and faculty of Notary Public educational programs at scores of public and private colleges throughout New York, including Cayuga Community College, Onondaga Community College, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Jefferson, Herkimer College, and Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
US Citizenship is not required for any applicant, nor is a felony conviction an automatic disqualification from receiving an appointment by the New York Secretary of State.
Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) union member-state employees may submit a CSEA Tuition Benefit Voucher to pay for the full cost of the training course; plus the CSEA Certification &amp; Licensure Examination Fee Reimbursement Benefit is also available to reimburse union member state employees for the NYS examination fee.
Space is very limited for this Central New York, special author appearance and pre-registration is required. The required textbook (Notary Public Handbook: A Guide for New York) is included in the college fee and will be distributed to all registrants on the day of the event. The cost of the half-day program is $125.
Piombino will also be appearing at Cayuga Community College on the following locations, dates and times: Friday, May 1, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Fulton Campus (Oswego County) and Monday, May 11, 2026 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. Auburn Campus (Cayuga County).
Specifically for New York State Notary Public commission holders, a special New York State Notary Law Update Briefing is scheduled on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Cayuga Community College Workforce Development Center, 248 Grant Avenue in Auburn.
