Onondaga Center's Two Very Special and Creative Veterans
Korean War US Navy Vets Lived Proud Lives and Were Able To Demonstrate Their Creativity

Veterans through the years have had a wide range of careers in history, some went into politics, perhaps owned private businesses, and there are many who used the creative abilities that designed their careers. Two veterans who reside at Onondaga Center, the 80-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility on East Avenue in Minoa, served in the US Navy during the Korean War but after their time served, went on to careers where their creative minds shaped their lives.

Veteran Fred Gregg Jr., 88, originally from Brooklyn NY, later moved to North Carolina and then spent a portion of his life in Syracuse before becoming a resident at Onondaga Center. Originally drafted into the US Army, he remembers when he first got there, they split half the men to the US Army and the other half to the US Navy. Fred later drafted into the Navy. He saw active duty and went on a battleship in New Jersey down the coast of North Africa. Later after serving his time, he became a highly respectable architect where she demonstrated that he can be creative with design. Sadly, Fred’s spouse Olivia passed away but together they had three children, one boy and two girls.

Veteran William "Brad" Weeks, turns 87 this month. Born in Syracuse, Mr. Weeks served in the US Navy and saw active duty in Alaska and Bermuda. Later after he served Uncle Sam, Brad worked as a Sea Bee where he was part of a team who built roads and bridges during the industrial explosion of the 20th Century. Brad was married to his wife Iris before she passed. They both had two children, a boy Robert and a daughter named Iris after his deceased wife who also passed away.
